PowerBar Energize!
June 19th, 2008 by hungry waif
I dont consider myself an athlete but maybe i should since i;ve been known for doing some intense continuous physical activty like running and o yea, cooking and cleaning for six hours in culinary school. And we all know the best, most available source of energy for our bodies is carbs. So Powerbars have these knew "energize" bars filled with "6 grams of high-quality protein and fruit C2 MAX optimized carb blend with the same ratio of glucose to fructose proven to deliver more energy". So maybe this is better as a preworkout snack because its good to have a protein rich snack for recovery. so to let yuou guys know beforehand, i recived a big bag full of these, so yes, this was free for me, but i am assuming they cost about 1.99 or so. Each bar is 210 calories, 3.5 fat, 42 g carbs, and 6 g protien. i must say if youare looking for endurance and energy, in the nutrition dept, these are ok. some powerbars have over 400 calories, and i am a firm beleiver anything for 250 calories should come from, you know, REAL FOOD. The ingredients dont scare me too much either, not super healthy (cane juice, citric acid, soy butter) but at least no artificialness you tend to get from bars. ok, but let me honest, they taste like super gritty airheads. If you have weak teeth or braces, forget it. if you dont like taffy or anything too chewy, this is really not for you. and to be honest, not for me either, I am just not feeling this is yummy, and even "energizing food" should be yummy to you. I did taste a bit of the "berry smoothie" flavor, but it resembled the berry flavor in cough syrup more than that fresh smoothie at jamba juice. Over all grade: C+, kudos for being a bit better than the standard bar but you still taste like sandy, cough syrup flavored airheads...
Dr. Atkins is rolling in his grave
Wait, carbs are a good thing? Oh yeah, he died of heart disease. Of course carbs are important for a workout.
I like their chocolate mocha Powerbars. No grittiness to speak of, so I am sorry for your experience with this product. Thanks for the review.
Carbs are wonderful! its the
Carbs are wonderful! its the refined ones you should aviod...but for energy, we as human need them. Hmm, maybe I'll try the mocha ones.. although i must say i was sent SO many powerbar samples, i'd feel so awkward buying yet another to add to my collection.
Not a big fan of Power Bars;
Not a big fan of Power Bars; there just bad tasting candy bars to me, and it doesn't surprise me that the texture was bad with these as it seems that all the Power Bars I've had were too tough and chewy.
